Next to Normal

We were delighted to once again work with the UNSW MTS, this time on their powerful production of Next to Normal. Directed by Nic Barg and musically directed by Jonathan Zhang, the show tackled complex themes with honesty and depth, supported by a dedicated cast, creative team, and orchestra.

Two Toned provided a complete audio solution for the production, including six headset microphones, a full band microphone package, and a monitoring setup to ensure the musicians could perform comfortably and confidently. We also carried out a full system design for the venue, repositioning the in-house speakers and subwoofer to achieve clearer and more even coverage throughout the space. The end result was a setup that delivered a balanced, detailed sound for both vocals and instruments.

The show was mixed live by Andrew Chen, with Oriana Chan assisting. Andrew brought great attention to detail and a solid mix every night. It’s always rewarding to see volunteers developing their craft, and we were glad to help make sure the setup supported their work.

We were more than happy to assist with both the bump-in and bump-out, working alongside the MTS team to make sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish.

Collaborating with UNSW MTS is always a pleasure. Their enthusiasm, professionalism, and passion for theatre are at the heart of what we love about supporting student and independent productions. We’re already looking forward to seeing what they create next.
