Two Toned Productions had the pleasure of working with Dramafreak Productions on their Sydney Fringe hit Definitely Not a Hungry Games. A campy, fast-paced parody musical inspired by the Hunger Games films. Directed by Edan McGovern and written by producers Robbie Alexander, Freya Moore, and Alexandra Gonzalez, the show was packed with humour, energy and plenty of tongue-in-cheek fun.
The production made waves before it even opened, selling out its entire season ahead of opening night, a testament to the excitement and buzz it generated during Fringe.
Our team came on board to provide sound design, mixing, microphone tech support, and the full audio equipment package for the show. With 22 headset microphones across the cast, the focus was on keeping everything clear, balanced and reliable, no small task for a high-energy ensemble comedy performed at Fringe pace.
We were lucky to be working in the newly renovated Eternity Playhouse in Darlinghurst, which now features a new Meyer Sound installation. The system sounded fantastic in the space and gave us a great platform to build on. It was a treat to take advantage of such a high-quality setup and tailor it to the needs of this fast-moving musical.
As is typical with Fringe, the schedule was intense, from first tech run to live audience in just one day. It was a whirlwind, but the team pulled together to get everything tuned, tested, and ready to go in time for opening night. The cast brought incredible energy, and the atmosphere from that first sold-out crowd made all the effort worthwhile.
Definitely Not a Hungry Games was a joy to work on, a clever, chaotic, and hilarious production with a team that fully embraced the spirit of Fringe. We were thrilled to be part of its success.
