Lenny Pearce’s Toddler Techno

Kuma Entertainment

May 2026

Lighting Designed by Peter Miller

On the 16ht and 17th of May, the team at Kuma Entertainment put on a 2 city run of Lenny Pearce’s Toddler Techno rave, that has been blowing up globally. When Lenny asked me to come on board as their Lighting Director, I knew it would be a fun and exciting challenge to bring together the high energy of rave lighting, in a way that was also enjoyable to children.

Stop 1: The Coliseum Theatre 16th May

Sydneys Coliseum Theatre is one of the nicest venues I have ever worked in, a large tiered seating venue with a high roof and long beams. With an in house GrandMA3 Light, and Ayrton Mistral-S’s and ShowPro Fusion PAR Q XII, it is a wonderful venue to light. Using a mixture of the house rig as well as a floor package supplied by Resolution X consisting of 8 Titan Tubes, 6 ShowPro Fusion BAR Q XII and 2 ShowPRO R2 Beam Wash, it was a bright dynamic show. Having the floor package created a nice contrast throughout the show, offering a closer alternative, tightening up the smaller moments, while the house rig, made it easy to create large and powerful moments.

Stop 2: The UC Refectory 17th May

Compared to the Coliseum Theatre, the UC Refectory is a much tighter, intimate venue. Having a much smaller house rig, consisting of Martin Quantum Washes, and Ayrton Ghibli’s, the floor package really did the heavy lifting for this show. We brought in a GrandMA3 Command wing, allowing me to run a similar show to Sydney. Being that the show was during the day, and the venue had large windows, it was also not possible to create a complete blackout. Overall the lighting was a lot more intimate, as the crowd was right up close, however the smaller rig, and light leak, made the show overall a bit less dynamic.

The Floor Package

Astera Titan Tubes are a must have for a show like this. Wireless, battery powered and pixel-mappable, they offer all the punch, and none of the cable. Fusion BAR Q XII are also a dynamic fixture. Offering 15 individual pixels, they are dynamic and bright. Having the ShowPRO R2 Beam Wash was also great for silhouetting Lenny, and doing some fun effects.

Timecode and Showkontrol

Both shows ran fully timecoded via Showkontrol. That means every cue, every hit, every movement was locked to Lenny’s set. Timecode on a techno set like this is the difference between lighting that feels reactive and lighting that feels inevitable. When the drop happens and the rig fires precisely on the transient, you’re not reacting to the music, you’re part of it.

Working With Kuma

The team Kuma Entertainment is always a delight to work with. Calm professional and efficient. Clear advance, great ground support, and the kind of creative trust that lets you actually commit to a design rather than playing it safe. Looking forward to more with them.
