We’re big believers in the power of community and independent theatre. There’s so much creativity and passion in these spaces, and we love finding ways to help bring those stories to life especially where every bit of support counts. That’s why, when we saw that the UNSW Musical Theatre Society (MTS) was preparing for their production of Merrily We Roll Along, directed by Sasha Cole, we reached out to see how we could help.
We started by meeting with musical director Jieshun Wang to get a clear understanding of the orchestra’s requirements and the overall setup for the show. By talking through the details of what the musicians needed, we were able to work out exactly what was required in terms of microphones and monitoring. This allowed us to put together a tailored audio package. A set of instrument microphones and a monitoring system for the orchestra, alongside a 12-channel wireless headset system for the cast. Everything needed to support the performance, without any unnecessary extras.
We were also able to make use of the existing infrastructure at UNSW’s Studio One. Rather than bringing in another PA system, we redeployed and tuned the venue’s in-house system to suit the needs of the show. By carefully adjusting placement and settings, we achieved a clear, balanced sound throughout the space demonstrating that with a bit of technical know-how, you can get great results without stretching the budget.
When it came time for bump in, we worked side by side with the show’s sound technician and designer, Andrew Chen, and assistant sound technician, Levi Maron. Our goal was to make sure they felt comfortable and confident with the system, so we took care of the technical setup and tuning, and spent time sharing tips and answering questions.
Projects like this are why we do what we do. It’s about more than just equipment it’s about sharing knowledge, supporting passionate teams, and making creativity accessible to everyone. If you’re working on a production and think we could help, we’d love to hear from you. Reach out to us at [email protected] and let’s make something great together.
